What happens
Two explorers reach a fork underground and have to choose between fast and frightening or slow and safe. The story takes the choice seriously — and neither option turns out to be the wrong one.

The lamp showed two tunnels. The left one went down and narrowed until it was the size of a letterbox. The right one was tall enough to walk in and curved away into more dark.
"Left is twenty minutes," said Ada, holding the chalk map. "Right is until it gets dark outside."
Neither of them moved. Somewhere behind them, water dripped in a slow, patient way, as though it had all the time in the world and knew they didn't.
