What happens

From the shore, the high rock looked reasonable. From the top of the high rock, the lake had moved considerably farther away.
Kai's cousins had all jumped. They were treading water down there, faces turned up, being encouraging in a way that was somehow making it worse.
"You don't have to," called Aunt Nas from the shore, and meant it, which was the first helpful thing anybody had said.
