Saphira and the Vanishing Hamster

Saphira loved mornings. Especially mornings with her new Rainbow Train. It was a tiny, perfect engine that could ride on sunbeams and slide down rainbows. She set it on her windowsill as dawn painted the sky. “Time for an adventure!” she whispered. The train hummed, ready to go. In all the excitement, Saphira completely forgot about the little cage in the corner. Inside, her hamster, Pip, was waiting for his breakfast. His tiny tummy rumbled, but Saphira was already lost in her game, imagining the amazing places her train would go.

An hour later, Saphira turned from the window. “Pip, did you see that?” she began, but stopped. Pip was curled in a tiny ball, much smaller than usual. He looked weak. Saphira’s heart gave a thump. His food bowl was empty. “Oh, Pip! I forgot!” Guilt washed over her, cold and prickly. As she watched in horror, Pip began to shrink. He grew smaller and smaller, from the size of a berry to the size of a pea, and then… poof! He vanished into a tiny, shimmering speck of dust that danced in the sunbeam.

Saphira’s breath caught in her throat. A speck of dust! How could she ever find him? Then, she remembered a story her grandma told her. A story about a single Rainbow Dewdrop, hidden in the Whispering Woods, that could restore anything that had shrunk too much. “I’ll save you, Pip,” she whispered to the tiny speck. She sprang into action. From her explorer’s kit, she grabbed a tiny net, a small mirror, a magnifying glass, and a little glass vial. She was ready. The quest to find the Rainbow Dewdrop had begun.
